Keep your metabolism burning
For some odd reason people still believe that starving themselves and not eating for hours on end will actually help them lose fat. When you don't eat for hours on end your body goes into starvation mode and therefore hordes all of the calories you have and therefore slowing down your fat loss efforts.

Without a clear cut written goal you will not succeed. Write it down on paper if you have to. Put it somewhere so you see it every day. Saying to yourself I just want to lose a few pounds is not good enough. Tell yourself you want to drop 8 pounds this month. The ideal amount of fat people can lose varies, but it is usually 1-2 pounds a week depending on the person. Set reasonable goals for yourself.
Do not drink calories
This is a tough one but in order to stay under your daily required calories you must only drink water (or 0 calories drinks like diet cola in moderation). Calories add up so quickly and things like pop and juice are just pure sugar. Not only to they cause a huge insulin spike causing you to store the carbohydrates in the body as fat but it also is so easy to forget your drinking them. Water also aids in digestion, pop on the other hand, not so much.
Keep these in mind when you're trying to get in shape and lose that belly fat.
